Senior police "killer" trial set for 9 March
12 years ago | 6387 Views
Three suspected armed robbers linked to fatal shooting of a senior police detective Lawrence Chatikobo in September last year have been indicted to March 29 for trial at the Bulawayo High Court.
They are Choga Njiva, Khumbulani Ncube and Blessing Gwezera.
The three had not been indicted when the High Court term opened in January this year as they had been placed off remand by Bulawayo magistrate Sibongile Msipa sometime in December last year.
The State alleges the three were part of the armed gang that stormed Bulawayo’s Cape to Cairo Restaurant in September 2010, fatally shot Chatikobo and injured police detective Pedzisai Shoko during a shootout.
The other suspected accomplice, Mthelisi Sibanda, shot and killed himself in November of the same year, when detectives cornered him after dramatically tracking him for 20 kilometres in Tsholotsho.
Chatikobo was killed when the four suspected armed robbers raided the nightclub and escaped with $700 loot.
